Frequently asked
questions.
General
How does UV-C disinfection work?
UV-C damages the DNA or RNA of microorganisms, preventing replication and rendering them inactive. Results depend on the delivered dose and whether UV-C reaches the target surface. Read more: The science of UV-C.
How do UV-C dosimeters measure surface dose in mJ/cm²?
UV-C dosimeters placed on a target surface indicate the cumulative UV-C energy received, typically expressed in millijoules per square centimeter (mJ/cm²). The dose required for a specific log reduction varies by microorganism and test conditions. A dosimeter indicates exposure at its location; it does not directly confirm microbial reduction or disinfection throughout a room.
Is UV-C disinfection safe around people?
No. UV-C lamps must only operate in unoccupied spaces with controlled access. Exposure can injure the skin and eyes. The A1 includes safety features to help prevent accidental exposure, but operators must still follow product instructions and facility safety procedures.
Can 254 nm UV-C light pass through glass or plastic?
Ordinary window glass generally blocks 254 nm UV-C, but transmission depends on the material. Some specialty materials, including certain types of quartz, transmit UV-C; plastics also vary. Do not assume a transparent barrier provides protection. Follow the device instructions and verify the barrier’s UV-C transmission properties.
Do UV-C disinfection lamps produce ozone?
The A1’s lamps are designed for ozone-free operation at 253.7 nm, commonly rounded to 254 nm. Their quartz construction blocks shorter wavelengths that can generate ozone. Use the specified replacement lamps and follow the product instructions.
Where can I find the operator manuals and online training?
The Resource Portal provides training courses, user manuals, guides, and certifications to help staff incorporate the robot into existing disinfection procedures. Access is included with the purchase of TGR devices. Sign in to the Resource Portal.
How long does an order for the A1 ADIBOT take to arrive?
Orders for the A1 ADIBOT typically arrive within 10 business days. The TGR Sales team sends shipping confirmation and an estimated delivery date once the order ships. Contact the Customer Experience team to check your order status.
How do I get technical support for my A1 robot?
TGR’s Customer Experience team is the first point of contact for technical assistance and on-site product training. Contact the Customer Experience team for help.
In the United States, if the team is unavailable, a TGR-certified technician will be dispatched within 48 hours. Spare units are also available through the loaner program when needed.
A1 product
What is the A1 ADIBOT, and who makes it?
The A1 ADIBOT is a fully autonomous UV-C disinfection robot made by TGR, a robotics company based in Los Angeles, California. It uses 16 shatterproof 254 nm UV-C lamps and onboard sensors to move between disinfection points on its own, treating environmental surfaces in unoccupied spaces. Read more: Meet the A1.
How long does the A1 ADIBOT battery last, and how long does charging take?
The A1 has an estimated average runtime of eight hours after a four-hour charge. Actual runtime and charging time vary with operating conditions.
What is the maximum door threshold height the A1 robot can cross?
The A1 can cross thresholds up to 0.5 inches high. Threshold shape, floor conditions, and the surrounding clearance should also be considered when evaluating a route.
How long do the A1’s UV-C lamps last, and when should they be replaced?
The UV-C lamps are rated for 16,000 hours. The replacement schedule may vary with usage patterns. Follow the product maintenance instructions and coordinate replacements with TGR support.
Are the A1 ADIBOT’s UV-C lamps shatterproof?
Yes. The A1’s UV-C lamps have a protective shatterproof coating designed to help contain fragments if a lamp breaks. Handle and replace lamps according to the product instructions.
Does the A1 UV-C robot provide 360-degree coverage?
Yes. The A1 has 16 UV-C lamps: eight provide coverage around the robot, and eight are angled toward lower surfaces. Objects can still cast shadows, so coverage depends on positioning and the room layout.
Can the A1 robot be moved manually or dispatched remotely?
The A1 has push handles and a low center of gravity to help operators maneuver it manually. It can also be dispatched autonomously to a location in a pre-mapped environment using the app.
How does the A1’s autonomous navigation work, and what doorway width does it need?
The A1 uses SLAM — Simultaneous Localization and Mapping — with LiDAR, depth and time-of-flight sensing, ultrasonic sensors, and infrared sensors to map its surroundings and navigate. It can pass through spaces as narrow as 28 inches. Route suitability depends on the layout and obstacles.
A1 operation
Does the A1 UV-C robot work without internet?
Yes. The A1 can run disinfection tasks offline. Its tablet connects through internal Wi-Fi, and task data is stored locally on the robot. Remote web and ADIS functions require connectivity.
How does ADIS track UV-C disinfection tasks and generate reports?
ADIS, the Autonomous Deployment Information System, is included with every A1 at no extra cost. It supports remote task management, activity tracking, and detailed reports for operational review and accountability. Task logs document operation; they do not measure surface dose or microbial reduction. Read more: ADIS fleet reporting.
How does the A1 notify operators when a disinfection cycle is complete?
The A1 announces task completion through its onboard speakers and provides notifications through the tablet and web platform. Web updates require connectivity.
How long does a UV-C disinfection cycle with the A1 take?
Cycle time depends on room size, the number of disinfection points, and the target microorganism and required dose. The operating plan should account for the room layout and surfaces to be treated.
How many A1 robots does my facility need?
The number depends on room sizes, the number of rooms, disinfection frequency, and the time available to complete tasks. Contact TGR to review your spaces and operating schedule.
What safety procedures are required to operate the A1?
The Customer Experience team coordinates complimentary on-site training upon delivery. Training covers safety procedures, mapping, and hands-on operation. Keep the space unoccupied during UV-C operation and follow the product instructions and facility procedures.
Can I control the A1 robot from both the tablet and web portal?
Yes. Operators can deploy tasks from the tablet and pause or stop them through the web portal, or vice versa. With connectivity, the web portal syncs the robot’s latest status after tablet operation. Coordinate operators so commands do not conflict.
A1 service
What training and operator certification come with the A1?
Every A1 purchase includes initial setup, up to 16 hours of on-site training, operator certifications, and access to the complimentary Resource Portal. Self-paced courses help staff learn operation and integrate the robot into existing disinfection procedures.
What warranty and coverage come with the A1 ADIBOT?
The A1 ADIBOT is covered for five years: the first year under a free limited warranty, then four years of extended coverage. Contact TGR about warranty coverage.
